Jim Benjamin was the leader of the Hardrocker basketball team during the most successful period in school history. During his four years SD Mines compiled a 75-36 record (.676) and won two SDIC Championships.

Benjamin's contribution to the team cannot be overstated. At the time of his induction, he was the second all-time scorer in Hardrocker men's basketball history with 2,348 points. He was the SDIC Most Valuable Player, an All-NAIA District selection, and an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. He became the first player in school history to score 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. He is the team's all-time rebound leader with 1,264.

Smooth as silk and deadly as dynamite, Benjamin will always hold a special place in Hardrocker basketball history.
