Chris Walla earned All-SDIC, All-NAIA District, and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors during his great career at the Mines. A linebacker, his toughness and a nose for the football made him a player that the opposing team always had to keep track off.

In a game against Black Hills State, Walla established the record for tackles in a game - an unbelievable combined 47 assisted and unassisted tackles.

He recorded 227 tackles during the 1976 season - still a team record. Hardrocker defensive coordinator Sonny Coyle called Walla one of the best players he ever coached.
