Darold "Dud" King, athletic director, coach, professor, chairman of physical education department. Darold "Dud" King served Tech as head football coach form 1963 to 1970, and as athletic director and chairman of the physical education department from 1970 to 1991.

King coached the Hardrockers to the 1970 SDIC Conference Football Championship in the final game of the season and his coaching career. The win over Northern State 36-34, was one of the greatest wins in school history, as Tech rallied form a 28-6 halftime deficit before 5,000 fans at O'Harra Stadium.

As athletic director, King was instrumental in the completion of the Tech PE Center and Goodell Gymnasium in 1976. After his retirement, he was a key fundraiser for the renovation of O'Harra Stadium in 1994. King was a strong supporter of the Hardrock Club and believed that Tech could produce winning teams.

Dud King Touched many lives during his career at Tech, from varsity athletes and physical education students, to fellow coaches and members of the university's faculty and staff. On October 16, 1999, the Tech PE Center was named the Darold "Dud" King Physical Education Center to honor his dedication and commitment to Tech.
