The South Dakota School of Mines 1997-98 women’s basketball team broke several records that season, including reaching 28 wins in the season, went on an 11-game winning streak, averaged over 80 points a game, had the most field goals made in as season (940), had the most field goal attempts in a season (2,178) and earned the best winning percentage (.875). The Lady Hardrockers finished that year with a 28-4 overall record and the team set the record for most points scored in a game, cashing in for 104 against Huron University.
But the crown jewel of the 1997-98 season was the Lady Hardrockers qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament and making it all the way to the semifinal round – a feat not accomplished before by SD Mines --- for the program that had been to the national tournament three times prior.
The 1997-98 squad rostered two NAIA All-Americans (Cori Hoff, Jaimie Barraclough), four all-time career leaders in scoring, two all-time career leaders for blocks, seven all-time career leaders for steals, four all-time career leaders for assists, five all-time career leaders for three-pointers made and one all-time career leader for rebounds.
