RAPID CITY, SD – South Dakota Mines Soccer recorded their first victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Jamestown at Dakota Fields.
The Jimmies struck first as they took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. Felipe Costa got past
Abdo Salem Abdullah to give Jamestown the early lead. After that goal, it was all Hardrockers for the rest of the match. In the 35
th minute,
Lucas Cardona set up
Nickolas North to tie the score at 1-1. The score remained tied going into halftime.
The Hardrockers took a lead and never looked back in the second half. They had two shots saved early in the half until
Alvin Udoto scored a goal in the 57
th minute to make it 2-1. North recorded his third point of the game with an assist.
Just nine minutes later,
Parker Yocom scored off a free kick to extend the Hardrockers lead. Yocom finalized the score at 4-1 in the 69
th minute with his second goal of the match.
Kaulden Hood picked up an assist on the goal.
Yocom led the match with four shots, three shots on goal and two goals. North scored one with his two shots on goal. Udoto also collected two shots on goal. In total, the Hardrockers outshot the Jimmies 17-5, with 12 shots on goal to Jamestown's two. Abdullah picked up one save in the contest.
"It was a great performance all around from us today," head coach
Teren Schuster said. "To go down 1-0 early in the match and have the ability to come back and be resilient is a good sign for us. We stayed true to ourselves and throughout the 90 minutes and stayed within our identity helping us get the victory. There is still plenty to work on, but it is always great to win at home, especially in the manner we did."
What's Next
The Hardrockers will go on the road next week at Dakota Wesleyan on Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. After that match, they will play at Air Force on Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
