MITCHELL, SD – South Dakota Mines Soccer scored five goals in a dominant victory over Dakota Wesleyan on Friday afternoon to move to 2-0-1.
The Hardrockers put pressure on early as they recorded four shots in the first 19 minutes. In the 27
th minute,
Parker Yocom set up
Nickolas North to give the Hardrockers a 1-0 lead. Just six minutes later, Erik Castonon scored his first collegiate goal to make it 2-0.
Zach Peroff set him up to pick up the assist. In total, South Dakota Mines collected six shots in the first half.
In the second half, the Hardrockers put away the game quickly. In the 50
th minute,
Jacob Miklas gave it to
Alvin Udoto for a goal. It was Udoto's second goal of the season. Castanon recorded an assist on another North goal, this time in the 52
nd minute. North leads the RMAC with four goals in three matches played.
Julen Arteaga scored in the 72
nd minute to make the score 5-0.
Kaulden Hood picked up the assist. Lewis Cunningham scored for the Tigers in the 85
th minute to finalize the score at 5-1.
South Dakota Mines totaled 14 shots and eight shots goal. Defensively, they held Dakota Wesleyan to one shot on goal. Seven different Hardrockers recorded a point in this contest.
For the Hardrockers, this is the most goals they have scored since Sept. 15, 2017, where they won 5-1 against Colorado Christian.
"It was a great performance all around from us," head coach
Teren Schuster said. "To go on the road and be up 2-0 at halftime is never easy. Our attitude and energy towards the match really showed itself and made it comfortable for us early in the second half."
What's Next
The Hardrockers will be at Air Force on Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. After that match, they will return home to face Trinity Bible on Sept. 20 at 11 a.m.
