RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Soccer closed out a historic season on Sunday with a 5-1 Senior Day win over Adams State.
Match 1: Hardrockers vs. #13 Fort Lewis, 1-5 L
In their first match of the weekend, South Dakota Mines fell 1-5 to #13 Fort Lewis on Thursday night.
Fort Lewis started strong as they scored in the third minute. The Hardrockers picked up four shots in the first 22 minutes but could not convert.
Lucas Cardona was saved in the 43
rd minute as Fort Lewis went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Lorenz Guintini made it 2-0 in the 50
th minute for the Skyhawks.
Erik Castanon put the Hardrockers back in the game as he scored off a Cardona pass. However, Fort Lewis scored three straight goals to end the match and win 5-1.

Ethan French each had a shot on goal for the Hardrockers.
Daniel Freitas made eight saves in the match. That set the new career saves record at South Dakota Mines. He passed Kyle Daledovich's 235 career saves against the Skyhawks.
Match 2: Hardrockers vs. Adams State, 5-1 W
South Dakota Mines flipped the script as they topped Adams State 5-1 on Senior Day.
Castanon started the match with a goal off a
Jacob Miklas free kick. Just 17 seconds later,
Julen Arteaga set up
Bergen Loveless with a goal to make it 2-0 in the 11
th minute.
In the 19
th minute,
Nickolas North made history as he scored his 11
th goal of the season to break the South Dakota Mines season goals record. Arteaga made the score 4-0 in the 20
th minute.
Following a Grizzlies goal, North extended his record with a goal in the 66
th minute. Miklas picked up his second assist of the contest. That goal would be the last of the Hardrockers season as they won 5-1 over Adams State.
North totaled three shots, two shots on goal and two goals in 55 minutes played. Cardona, French and
Sawyer Rueckert all had three shots against the Grizzlies. In total, the Hardrockers recorded 23 shots, 13 shots on goal and five goals. Freitas made one save in net for the South Dakota Mines.
The Hardrockers celebrated Senior Day before this match.
Jonathan Stockwell, Freitas, Loveless,
Gabe Ripperda, Miklas and
Chase Stohlmann were all honored before kickoff.
South Dakota Mines ended the 2025 season 7-7-3 overall, their most wins in program history. They went 5-3 at Dakota Fields, their best record at home in program history. Their 2-1 win over #11 CSU Pueblo marked the first ranked win in program history. The Hardrockers also drew Air Force 1-1 in non-conference play. Their 10-0 victory over Trinity Bible marked the most goals scored in a match in program history. South Dakota Mines had 18 different goal scorers this season, the most in a season in program history.
In his first season as head coach,
Teren Schuster elevated the Hardrockers to new heights with much to look forward to in 2026.
What's Next
The All-RMAC teams will be announced later in November by the RMAC. The CSC Academic All-District and All-America honorees will also be announced later this year.
