Soccer Falls at Wesminster and Colorado Mesa Over the Weekend

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Soccer dropped two matches over the weekend at Westminster and Colorado Mesa.

Match 1: Hardrockers at Westminster, 0-1 L

On Thursday night, South Dakota Mines fell to Westminster 0-1 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Both teams started out slow as it was 0-0 at halftime. Daniel Freitas saved a shot in the 28th minute by Owen Gallo. The Hardrockers recorded two shots in the half.

James Miles scored in the 50th minute for the Griffins to make it 1-0. Kaulden Hood had the only shot in the second half as South Dakota Mines fell 0-1 at Westminster.

Hood, Alvin Udoto and Julen Arteaga collected the only shots for South Dakota Mines. Freitas recorded three saves for the Hardrockers.

Match 2: Hardrockers at Colorado Mesa, 0-2 L

In their second matchup of the season, Colorado Mesa topped South Dakota Mines 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Mavericks got off to a hot start as Nathan Hernandez made it 1-0 in the sixth minute. Kamden Kooiman increased the lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute as Colorado Mesa went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

South Dakota Mines tried to get things going in the middle of the second half. Rawley Ford and Even Henriksen were both saved in the 64th minute. Henriksen hit the crossbar in the 85th minute as the Hardrockers fell 0-2 at Colorado Mesa.

Ford recorded three shots and two shots on goal. Henriksen picked up two shots and one shot on goal. Freitas made a season-high seven saves against the Mavericks.

With the losses, South Dakota Mines fell to 6-6-3 and 1-6-1 in the RMAC.

What's Next

The Hardrockers will come back home to face #19 Fort Lewis on Thursday at 5 p.m. After that contest, they will play Adams State on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
