RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Football and head coach
Charlie Flohr has announced the signing of Devonte Murphy as the program's new Defensive Line Coach.
Devonte Murphy joins the Hardrockers after spending three seasons at Dakota State. With the Trojans, Murphy worked as the Outside Linebackers Coach from 2024-25 before working with the defensive line in 2025. During the 2025 season, he also served as the Special Teams Coordinator and the Travel Coordinator.

Charlie Flohr said. "Devonte hit a lot of the qualities we were looking for in the position. He has strong roots in South Dakota, playing both high school and college football in the state. Devonte has recruited in a lot of the same areas that we continue to recruit. Most importantly, he is a great teacher and technician of the game. He did a tremendous job at Dakota State over the last two years in developing their defensive line into one of the top units in the country. I am looking forward to see where Coach Murphy can take our defensive line moving forward."
Murphy helped guide the Trojans to an 8-2 record in 2025, their best mark since 2017. At the NAIA level, the Trojans ranked third nationally in passing yards allowed per game, seventh in rush yards allowed per game, eighth in points allowed per game and 17
th in sacks. Murphy coached five all-conference players during his tenure, including four in 2025.
Originally from Sioux Falls, Murphy attended Dakota State, where he was a two-time captain and earned All-NSAA three times as a defensive lineman. He graduated from Dakota State in 2023 with a degree in exercise science and is currently pursuing a master's degree in education and technology.
