LAKEWOOD, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball picked up a 67-58 victory at Colorado Christian on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams scored 18 points in the first quarter. With an early 7-2 deficit, the Hardrockers made two straight baskets to make it a one-point game. The Cougars went out to a six-point lead until the Rockers brought it back to tie it at 18-18, thanks to a
Savea Mansfield three-pointer.
South Dakota Mines dominated the second quarter, outscoring Colorado Christian 18-4. The Hardrockers went on a 9-0 run for the first three minutes of the quarter to go up 27-18. That lead turned into a 34-20 lead midway through the quarter. The Hardrockers held a 36-22 lead at halftime over the Cougars.
In the third quarter, the Rockers outscored the Cougars 19-16 to go up 55-38. Colorado Christian brought it down to a nine-point game until the Rockers went on a 9-2 run. The Hardrockers held a 17-point lead with 10 minutes left in the game.
The Cougars attempted to stage a comeback in the fourth but fell short as they outscored the Hardrockers 20-12. Colorado Christian chipped away at the lead, making it a 60-57 game with 1:49 left. South Dakota Mines put up five straight points and held the Cougars to just one point down the stretch to win 67-58.
Addison Miranda and Mansfield both had 18 points and four rebounds for the Rockers.
Emma Martin recorded 11 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Lauren Herman grabbed seven rebounds.
South Dakota Mines held the Cougars to just three three-pointers, while they landed seven in 21 attempts. They grabbed 40 rebounds with 20 points in the paint and 21 bench points.
The Hardrockers moved to 8-14 overall and 6-8 in the RMAC after the win.
