Rockers Defeat Regis for First Time in Program History

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball picked up a 78-48 victory on Thursday night against Regis.

The Rangers outscored the Hardrockers 19-13 in the first quarter. After the Rockers took an 8-2 lead to start the game, Regis started landing shots and took a 14-13 lead with 2:06 left. They recorded five straight points in the last 18 seconds of the game.

South Dakota Mines answered in the second quarter, outscoring Regis 28-8. An early 11-0 run gave the Hardrockers a 24-19 lead with 6:23 left. They went on another 9-0 run, giving them a 12-point advantage over midway through the quarter. The Hardrockers held a 41-27 lead at halftime. The Rockers made seven three-pointers in the quarter.

In the third, the Hardrockers outscored Regis 19-13. After the Rangers brought the deficit down to 12 points, the Rockers picked up a 12-2 run to make the score 59-37. South Dakota Mines led 60-40 with one quarter to play.

The Hardrockers won 78-48 after winning the fourth quarter 18-8. Midway through the quarter, South Dakota Mines picked up a 10-0 run to go up 74-46. Addison Miranda landed two three-pointers in that run. The Rockers took down Regis by 30 points, their largest margin of victory of the season.

Miranda led the Hardrockers with 15 points on 5-for-7 three-point shooting. She also had three steals and two assists. Emma Martin recorded 14 points and two steals. Savea Mansfield put up 13 points and five rebounds. Morning Grace Spotted Bear totaled 10 rebounds, while Carolina Ruiz Molina had seven assists.

The Rockers shot 48.3% from the field, 48% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free throw line. They had 33 rebounds, 30 points in the paint, 28 bench points and 12 three-pointers made.

With the win, the Hardrockers improved to 9-14 overall and 7-8 in the RMAC. This marks their first time in program history defeating the Rangers.

What's Next

South Dakota Mines welcomes MSU Denver on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. After their road trip next week at New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis, the Hardrockers are back home on Feb. 26 against Colorado Mesa.
