Rockers Return Home for #4 Mavericks, Mountaineers This Weekend

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball returns home for their final weekend of the season with #4 Colorado Mesa on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., followed by Western Colorado on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Series History

Colorado Mesa holds an 11-0 record all-time against South Dakota Mines. Last season against the Mavericks, the Rockers fell 44-73 in Grand Junction. Colorado Mesa is 5-0 at the King Center, with their last win on Jan. 14, 2023.

The Hardrockers are 8-8 all-time against Western Colorado. Back on Jan. 22, the Mountaineers defeated the Rockers 73-61 in Gunnison, Colorado. Savea Mansfield had 20 points in that game. At the King Center, the Rockers and Mavericks are 3-3.

About the Mavericks

#4 Colorado Mesa comes to Rapid City as one of the premier teams in NCAA DII. Their 28 wins are the most in DII this season, with just one loss. They have won their last 25 games and hold a perfect 18-0 RMAC record. Last weekend, the Mavericks defeated both Westminster and Western Colorado.

Olivia Reed Thyne, the two-time RMAC Player of the Year, is second in the conference with 20.7 points per game. Her 2,195 career points is third among active NCAA DII players. She is also averaging 11.2 rebounds per game, the ninth-best mark in DII. The Mavericks lead the RMAC in offense and defense.

About the Mountaineers

Western Colorado is 14-10 overall and 12-6 in the RMAC coming into the weekend. They have clinched a spot in the RMAC Tournament and are fighting for a top four spot to host in the quarterfinals. They split their games last weekend with a win over Westminster and a loss to #4 Colorado Mesa.

Ivey Schmidt leads the Mountaineers with 19.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game this season. Jayda Maves is averaging 13.1 points per game on 45.2% field goal shooting. The Mountaineers' team 36.8 three-point percentage leads the RMAC and ranks fifth in NCAA DII.

About the Hardrockers

South Dakota Mines returns home with a 9-17 overall record and 7-11 RMAC clip. They have lost three straight games with their last win on Feb. 12 against Regis. Last weekend, they fell to New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis on the road. The Hardrockers have won two of their last games at the King Center, with the lone loss to MSU Denver on Feb. 14.

So far this season, Savea Mansfield has 16 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while Morning Grace Spotted Bear is averaging 12.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Addison Miranda's 35.7 three-point percentage ranks third in the RMAC and first among freshmen. As a team, the Rockers' 77.1 free throw percentage is second in the conference, and their 0.96 assist/turnover ratio ranks fourth.
