RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball will head south to New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis this weekend.
Series History
South Dakota Mines has dominated New Mexico Highlands, holding a 13-2 all-time record against the Cowgirls. The Hardrockers have won 13 of the last 14 matchups, with the lone loss on Dec. 17, 2022, at the King Center. Last season, South Dakota Mines won their only matchup with New Mexico Highlands 77-69.
Against Fort Lewis, the Hardrockers and Skyhawks are 7-7 all time. Fort Lewis won back on Jan. 15 at the King Center 71-58. In Durango, the Rockers have won their last two games. South Dakota Mines has won three of their last four matchups with Fort Lewis.
About the Cowgirls
New Mexico Highlands is 10-13 overall and 6-10 in the RMAC, one game behind the Hardrockers in the RMAC standings. They have lost their last four games and five of their last six games. Their last victory was a 77-68 win on Jan. 31 against Regis. Last weekend, they fell to both Westminster and #4 Colorado Mesa.
Kapiolani Anitielu leads the Cowgirls with 16.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She has not played in a game since Jan. 22. Aniya Johnson is second with 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls' 44.0 field goal percentage is first in the RMAC.
About the Skyhawks
Coming into their last home weekend, Fort Lewis is 14-10 overall and 7-9 in the RMAC, tied with the Hardrockers in the conference. The Skyhawks have lost four of their last five games, with the long win on Feb. 7 at New Mexico Highlands. They fell last weekend to #4 Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado.
Katie Lamb is averaging 12.5 points per game to lead the Skyhawks. On the boards, Josie Davis has 5.0 rebounds per game, including 53 offensive rebounds. As a team, the Fort Lewis offense is third in the RMAC with 69.9 points per game, while their defense ranks 11
th.
About the Hardrockers
South Dakota Mines is tied with Fort Lewis at 9-15 overall and 7-9 in the RMAC. The Rockers have picked up two wins in their last three games to move into ninth place in the conference. Last weekend, they topped Regis 78-48 but fell to MSU Denver on a last-second buzzer beater. The Hardrockers are 4-7 overall on the road this season.
Savea Mansfield's 16.1 points lead the team, while her 5.3 rebounds per game is second.
Morning Grace Spotted Bear is averaging 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Freshman
Addison Miranda is shooting 35.1% from three-point range this season, the third-best mark in the conference. As a team, the Rockers' 0.97 assist/turnover ratio is fourth in the RMAC.
