Women's Basketball Ready for Rivalry Week with Chadron State and Black Hills State

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball is split this weekend with Chadron State at home on Thursday and Black Hills State in Spearfish on Saturday.

Series History

South Dakota Mines is 38-38 all-time against Chadron State. In Chadron on Dec. 6, the Hardrockers dominated the Eagles 75-51. Three different Hardrockers scored 14 or more points in that game.

Against the Yellow Jackets, South Dakota Mines is 56-56 all time. After losing six straight games, the Hardrockers defeated the Yellow Jackets 64-62 on Dec. 2. Savea Mansfield recorded 30 points and seven rebounds in that game. The last time the Hardrockers won in Spearfish was on Feb. 28, 2021.

About the Eagles

Chadron State comes to Rapid City with a 1-15 overall record and 1-10 RMAC clip. Their lone win of the season was a 68-53 victory at Regis on Jan. 10. On Tuesday night against Black Hills State, the Eagles fell 54-67 at the Chicoine Center.

McKenzi Petersen and Audrey Quintana both lead the team with 9.6 points per game this season. Amya Winfrey is averaging 4.9 rebounds per game to lead the team. Ella Moser's 34.7 three-point percentage leads the team and is fourth in the RMAC this season.

About the Yellow Jackets

Through 18 games, Black Hills State is 11-7 and 8-3 in the RMAC. Since their loss to the Hardrockers, they have won 10 of their last 12 games. Before their win at Chadron State on Tuesday, they fell to #9 Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado last weekend.

The Yellow Jackets have a balanced offense with five players averaging five or more points. Addison Branscum leads the team with 11 points per game, while Sawyer Stoebner is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. Their defense of 53.9 points given up per game is second in the conference.

About the Hardrockers

South Dakota Mines is 6-12 overall and 4-6 in the RMAC going into the weekend. They are on a five-game losing streak with their last win on Jan. 8 at MSU Denver. The Hardrockers most recently fell to Western Colorado and Westminster last weekend on the road.

Mansfield leads South Dakota Mines with 18.6 points per game and is second with 5.3 rebounds per game. Her 52 field goal percentage ranks third in the RMAC. In RMAC contests, Mansfield's 20.9 points per game is second. Morning Grace Spotted Bear is averaging 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Hardrockers.
