RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Athletics Director
David Crum has announced the newest addition to the Hardrocker athletic staff.
Teren Schuster is the latest South Dakota Mines athletic department addition as the next head men's soccer coach.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome Coach Schuster to the Hardrocker athletic family," said Crum. He brings a wealth of high-quality experience and in-depth knowledge of the sport. "Great things are ahead for the Hardrocker Men's Soccer team."
Schuster has experience as a head coach. He led the program at Briar Cliff University for three seasons and coached them to a 24-22-12 overall record. He was also named GPAC Coach of the Year and earned the program's second NAIA National Tournament berth and first regular season conference championship during his tenure which spanned from 2022 to 2024. The 2023 team had five all-conference selections and just three losses, both program records.
Before being the lead man on the bench at Briar Cliff, Schuster was the lead assistant coach and director of recruiting for three seasons at Cardinal Stritch University. There, they achieved considerable success, earning a 49-18-6 overall record, twice winning the regular-season Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) championship, being crowned two-time CCAC tournament champions, and securing two NAIA national tournament berths.
In addition to the college coaching experience, Schuster has worked with youth programs, spending six years working with FC Wisconsin as a staff coach from 2016-2021, and being named the Youth Director and working in that role from 2021-2022.
A well-accomplished student-athlete, Schuster played at Cardinal Stritch, where he earned CCAC and NAIA academic honors five times and recognition for his play on the pitch. Schuster was a two-time CCAC All-Conference selection, an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, and the National Tournament Most Outstanding Offensive Player in 2018.
Schuster earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from Cardinal Stritch University in 2019.
"I would like to thank
David Crum, Cassie Kosiba, and the rest of the search committee for entrusting me with this opportunity," said Teren Schuster. "I am delighted to join the staff at South Dakota Mines. Joining such a prestigious academic university is a great honor and a huge recruiting tool. I look forward to building a competitive culture in the program while continuing to engage at a high level in the classroom. I'm excited to be a Hardrocker!"
Schuster will begin working in this position on April 24th.
