RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball fell to Minot State 69-75 at the King Center.
Minot State outscored South Dakota Mines 22-21 in the first quarter.
Morning Grace Spotted Bear and
Alexis Backhaus both hit three-pointers early in the quarter to give the Hardrockers a 7-5 lead.
Carolina Ruiz Molina drained a three-pointer with 3:57 left to extend the Hardrockers lead to 14-10. Both teams traded points at the end as the Beavers led 22-21 after 10 minutes.
Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter.
Addison Miranda gave the Hardrockers a one-point lead early in the quarter. The Beavers took back the lead and held it until the end in a defensive second quarter.
South Dakota Mines outscored the Beavers 20-19 in the third quarter to tie the game. Both teams traded points throughout the quarter. Miranda hit a three-pointer with 2:18 left to give the Hardrockers a 48-47 lead. She hit a jumper with four seconds left, making the score 52-52.
Minot State won the game 75-69 after winning the fourth quarter 23-17. The Beavers started the fourth quarter with a 13-0 run. The Hardrockers brought it back to a four-point game with 1:15 left. Taryn Hamling landed a three-pointer to make it 72-65. Minot State would win 75-69 over the Hardrockers.
Savea Mansfield led the Hardrockers with 20 points. She had seven rebounds and two assists with eight field goals made. Spotted Bear had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Miranda recorded 12 points for the Hardrockers.
South Dakota Mines shot 41.5% from the field and 38.5% from the three-point line. They had 36 points in the paint and 12 points off turnovers.
What's Next
The Hardrockers start RMAC play on Tuesday against Black Hills State at 5:30 p.m. at the King Center. After a contest at Chadron State on Dec. 6, South Dakota Mines will face Colorado Christian at home on Dec. 11.
