RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball defeated Black Hills State for the first time since the 2021-22 season on Tuesday night, with a final score of 64-62.
Black Hills State outscored the Hardrockers 18-12 in the first quarter. In the middle of the quarter, both teams traded points until the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-0 run to go up 18-9.
Morning Grace Spotted Bear made it 18-12 with a three-pointer at the end of the quarter.
The Hardrockers responded as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 16-11 in the second quarter. South Dakota Mines came back as a three-pointer from
Savea Mansfield at the five minute mark gave them a 24-22 lead. Going into halftime, Black Hills State led 29-28.
Both teams scored 16 points in the third quarter.
Carolina Ruiz Molina drained a three-pointer to start the half. Mansfield made another three-point shot later to make the score 36-33. A BHSU 6-1 run at the end of the quarter made it 45-44 going into the fourth quarter.
South Dakota Mines won 64-62 after outscoring the Yellow Jackets 20-17 in the fourth quarter. With a five-point deficit, the Hardrockers went on a 10-0 run to go up 59-54. South Dakota Mines made free throws at the end of the game to win 64-62 over Black Hills State.
Mansfield put up a career-high 30 points for the Hardrockers. She was 11-for-18 from the field and 2-for-5 from three-point range. She also led the team with seven rebounds. Spotted Bear recorded 10 points, four rebounds and five assists.
Alexis Backhaus and Molina both had nine points for the Hardrockers.
South Dakota Mines shot 42.6% from the field and 26.3% from three-point range. They had 27 rebounds, 36 points in the paint and 12 second chance points.
For the Hardrockers, it is their first win over Black Hills State since Feb. 19, 2022.

South Dakota Mines is back in action on Saturday at Chadron State at 1 p.m. They will return home to face Colorado Chrisitian on Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
