Women's Basketball to Begin 2025-26 Season with Pair of Lone Star Opponents

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball starts off the 2025-26 campaign with St. Mary's on Friday and St. Edward's on Sunday, both at 1 p.m. in the King Center.

The Hardrockers have not faced St. Mary's or St. Edward's in their history.

About the Rattlers

St. Mary's has not played a game yet coming into this contest. They lost an exhibition game to UTRGV 46-64 on Nov. 3. Last season, the Rattlers went 14-14 overall and 10-12 in the LSC. While they went 6-7 at home, they went 7-6 away from San Antonio.

They return their top scorer from a season ago in Christin Callens. She averaged 14.4 points and 5.4 rebounds last season on 48.6% shooting. She recorded seven 20+ point games and one 31-point game on Feb. 13 against Oklahoma Christian. Head coach Valerie Huizar returns for her fourth season with St. Mary's.

About the Hilltoppers

St. Edward's will take on Black Hills State on Friday afternoon before they face the Hardrockers on Sunday. In their lone exhibition game, they defeated Our Lady of the Lake 75-54. The Hilltoppers went 11-20 overall and 7-15 in the LSC last season. They only collected three wins on the road in that season.

The Hilltoppers also return their top scorer from last season. JP Perkins shot 42.5% from the field and 34.9% from beyond the arc last season as she averaged 13.6 points per game. She also had 122 assists and 59 steals. J.J. Riehl returns as the head coach for her 14th season with the Hilltoppers.

About the Hardrockers

South Dakota Mines will start off the new season under a new head coach. Kyley Bachand joined the Hardrockers from William Jewell and brought in Mike Divilbiss as her assistant coach. The Hardrockers will look to improve from an 8-19 season last year. They finished in 11th place in the RMAC last season.

The Hardrockers return three of their top four scorers from a season ago. Savea Mansfield, who averaged 13.8 points per game, returns for her senior season. Morning Grace Spotted Bear averaged 12.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and is back this season. The Hardrockers also return Miquedah Taliman, Emma Martin and Lauren Herman.

What's Next

The Hardrockers will host Nebraska Wesleyan next Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the King Center. After that, they will go on a three-game road trip, starting with Sioux Falls on Nov. 21 at 11 a.m.
