Soccer Falls Despite Getting on the Board First

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The South Dakota Mines soccer team finished its opening weekend in a second neutral site game as they took on William Jewell.

The Hardrockers started the match well, scoring an early goal after a beautiful long ball played by Rider Grow eventually found the feet of Trent Ripley, who was able to push it into the back of the net in the ninth minute while being fouled.

It wasn't too long after that, however, that William Jewell would answer pushing in a goal of their own from Brian Vidal who was assisted by Kaleb Fannin.

Later in the first half, William Jewell would get a second goal, this one by Zach Nichols, again, assisted by Fannin.

For the remainder of the contest, the Hardrockers would push for a tying goal, but were unable to find it, falling 2-1.

Overall, it was a fairly even contest with the shot and shot-on-goal advantage going the way of William Jewell, only slightly, 14 (7) – 12 (6).

Notes – Ripley's goal was the third of his career, and first since 2022…Hayden Jaramillo recorded a team-high, three shots on goal, while Ethan French recorded two…Daniel Frietas played in goal the entire match, recording five saves.

Up Next – South Dakota Mines is on the road for a Texas two-step the upcoming week as they play at Texas A&M International on Thursday, before taking on Sul Ross State on the road on Saturday morning.
