Women's Basketball in Alaska for Matchup with Seawolves Friday and Saturday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines has continued to improve against tough opponents early in the season, and that won't change with a trip to Alaska looming.
 
The Hardrockers head to Anchorage to take on the 6-1 Seawolves on Friday and Saturday.

SAVEA STEPS UP
Savea Mansfield continues to take steps forward. Now in her junior year, she is averaging career highs in scoring and rebounding, scoring 13.8 points per game and grabbing 5.6 rebounds.
 
MULTIFACETED MORNING GRACE
Morning Grace Spotted Bear is a multifaceted player who can do everything on the court. She is averaging double figures with 11.2 points per game for the first time. In addition, she is one of the best rebounders in the RMAC, averaging 8.8 boards per game. MG has posted two double-doubles, but she also gets into the passing lane and can protect the rim as she averages over a block and a steal per game.
 
SHOOTING UP THE LEADERBOARD
Piper Bauer continues to push towards the school record in made three-pointers. She is 24 three-pointers away from tying the record of 276 set by Ryan Weiss. In addition, She is 21st in school history in scoring and 15 points shy of breaking into the top 20.
 
SCOUTING ALASKA ANCHORAGE
As mentioned earlier, the Seawolves have started the season 6-1 and recently defeated Division I Vermont.
 
Elaina Mack is their leading scorer. She averages nearly 18 points a game on 40+ percent shooting from the field and from three-point range.
 
Point guard Emilia Long is also a threat, shooting over 50%, scoring 12.7 points per game, averaging 4.1 assists per game and 4.9 steals per game.
 
As a team, Alaska Anchorage is near the top of Division II in several categories, including scoring offense (first), turnover margin (first), scoring defense (second), steals (third), rebounding margin (third), assist to turnover ratio (third), offensive rebounding (fifth), turnovers forced (sixth), assists (ninth) and bench points per game (tenth).
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Following the pair of games in Alaska, South Dakota Mines starts its conference schedule on Tuesday with a home game against Black Hills State University on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the King Center.
