LEXINGTON, Ky. --- On Wednesday afternoon, the American Volleyball Coaches Association selected its Division II All-Region Teams.
The AVCA all-region teams are made up of 14 players in general with no restrictions by position. An additional six honorable mention selections were made in each of the eight NCAA Division II regions as well. The AVCA also names regional coach, player and freshman of the year award recipients. All selections are made by coaches in the various regions.
Following the best Division II season in program history, Alessandra Meoni was selected as just the second Hardrocker in school history to the AVCA South Central Region team as an honorable mention.
Meoni, a junior outside hitter originally hailing from Padova, Italy, before moving to Friendswood High School in Texas and coming to the Hardrockers via Western Nebraska Community College was phenomenal in her first season with South Dakota Mines. For the season, Meoni averaged 3.40 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .335 to go along with 3.69 points per set. These numbers were all near the top of the RMAC, earning her a Second Team All-RMAC selection prior to being named AVCA South Central Region Honorable Mention.
