RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Volleyball continued the Hardrocker Volleyball Invitational with two sweeps over Minnesota Crookston and Chadron State on Friday.
Match 1: Hardrockers 3, Golden Eagles 0
The Hardrockers took set one 25-20 to go up 1-0 in the match. Three kills and one attack error gave the Rockers an early 4-0 lead. After the Golden Eagles tied the set at 10-10, South Dakota Mines recorded a 7-2 run to make the score 17-12. Both teams went back-and-forth at the end to give the Rockers a 25-20 win.
In the second, South Dakota Mines took the set 25-12. With a 7-5 early lead, the Rockers went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-5 lead. That lead turned into a 20-10 advantage later in the set. A 5-2 run ended the set as the Hardrockers took a 2-0 match lead.
The Rockers dominated the third set 25-9 to sweep Minnesota Crookston 3-0. They started out the set with a 10-4 lead that turned into a 14-7 advantage. The Hardrockers closed out the match on a 11-2 run to win 25-9 and win the match 3-0.
Lexi Glendenning led the match with 11 kills and a .550 hitting percentage.
Cate Warren tallied eight kills and
Brylin Gomer picked up six kills.
Ivy Vindivich picked up 11 digs and five kills.
Emily Henderson dished out 19 assists, while
Hannah Joseph had 16.
Campbell Sheffield collected 11 digs for the Rockers.
As a team, the Hardrockers hit for .312 with 40 kills and 48 digs. They also put up three blocks and six aces.
Match 2: Hardrockers 3, Eagles 0
To close out the night, South Dakota Mines took down Chadron State 3-0 in a non-conference matchup.
The Rockers opened the match with a 25-15 first set victory. With a 2-1 deficit, the Hardrockers put up six straight points to take a 7-2 lead. They extended that lead to 20-11 after a solo block from
Grace Mak. Vindivich ended the set with a kill to give the Hardrockers a 25-15 win.
South Dakota Mines won a tight second set 29-27 over the Eagles to go up 2-0. Chadron State held a lead for most of the set until the Hardrockers went on a five-point run to go up 24-22. The Eagles took four of the next five points to give them a 26-25 lead. However, the Rockers responded and won 29-27 after an attack error from the Eagles.
In the third set, the Hardrockers won 25-21 to top the Eagles 3-0. Once again, the Eagles held a lead for most of the beginning of the set. The Rockers recorded a 5-1 run to take an 18-15 lead. They held that lead until the end of the match, highlighted by a block from
Emily Henderson to win 25-21.
Once again, Glendenning led the match with 14 kills on a .303 hitting percentage. She also added nine digs and four blocks.
Maria Bouman totaled 10 kills, three blocks and a .529 hitting percentage. Warren added seven kills, while
Joy Aburto had five kills. Vindivich contributed 14 digs, three aces and two kills.
In total, the Rockers hit for .231 with 44 kills. They also had 49 digs, 12 blocks and 39 assists.
What's Next
The Hardrockers will conclude the weekend with Jamestown on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. They will go to the Mountain Lion Classic next weekend at UCCS for another non-conference tournament.
