Hardrocker Athletics Announces 2022 Hall of Fame Class

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- South Dakota Mines along with the Hardrock Club has announced the individuals and teams who will be inducted into the Hardrocker Hall of Fame.

The class of 2022 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on homecoming weekend, scheduled for the weekend of September 24th. 

The inductees to the 2022 Hall of Fame are as follows:

1998-99 Women's Basketball Team:
Under the leadership of head coach Barb Felderman, the 98-99 Hardrockers made it to their second-straight NAIA Final Four, completing a 25-9 season, along with a South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) Championship with an 11-4 conference mark. This team was led by current Hall of Fame members Jami Barraclough and Ann Konechne who scored over 15 points a game. Amy Wilson and Marissa Richards were also significant factors in the success of this team, and both sit on the career records list at South Dakota Mines. Many players factored into the success of this team. The list of players and coaches is below:

Marissa Richards – Women's Basketball:
In addition to being a part of the 98-99 team, she was a member of three SDIC championship teams, and three NAIA national tournament teams, including two final four appearances. Marissa is a member of the 1,000-point club, accumulating 1,050 points, and recorded 650 rebounds (15th all-time).

Lori Coble – Women's Basketball (Coach/Leadership):
Lori was a major part of the tradition set by the Hardrocker Women's Basketball program, not only being a part of the 97-99 Final four teams. She began her coaching stint in the 1983-84 season and spanned almost 30 years through 2010-11. Coble was a major part of Hardrocker Women's Basketball history, coaching 11 conference championship teams, 9 NAIA national tournament appearances, 8 sweet 16's, and two final fours. 

Maher Barakat – Football:
Mahar is a native of Kuwait who was a part of the South Dakota Mines football program from 1965-1969, first lettering in 1966. In that season he set records, making three field goals, including a long of 49. He continued to letter each year throughout his career, scoring 21 points in 1968 for a career total of 60 to that point. That season he connected on 12 extra points or PATs and three field goals giving him 39 and 12 through his junior season. That season he added punting to his repertoire, averaging 38 yards per punt and 55.6 yards per kickoff. Following his graduation, he held every field goal, extra point, kickoff, and punting record for South Dakota Mines. He parlayed his great career into being selected in the 1970 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos in the 15th round (375).

Jim Cain – Men's Basketball: 
In the first year at South Dakota Mines, Jim played football, basketball, and track but decided to concentrate on basketball for the next three years. He wound up starting every basketball game during his South Dakota Mines career. By the time he graduated he was a two-time All-SDIC selection and was the highest scoring guard in program history with 1,073 points.

Steve Wilcox – Men's Basketball: 
Wilcox made a difference early on in his career averaging 7.8 points per game as a true freshman in 1980-81. Improvement continued in his sophomore year, leading the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game with over 90% free throw shooting and shooting over 50% from the field. In his junior year, he was an All-SDIC selection, averaging over 17 points per game. In 1983-84, his senior year he helped lead the team to a share of the SDIC Championship going 19-9 overall and 11-3 in the SDIC. He finished his career 6th on the all-time scoring list and currently sits in 12th with 1,340 points.

Dave & Lori Litzen – Builders:
Graduates of South Dakota Mines, Dave is a former faculty member and Lori has also worked at the institution. Their educations at South Dakota Mines provided them with the basis for wonderful career opportunities. They have supported the mission of the athletic department and have assisted in improving the student-athlete experience by establishing a named scholarship for junior and senior athletes in good academic standing.
