RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Athletics announced that Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator Cassie Kosiba has accepted a leadership position at American University, concluding seven years of dedicated service to Hardrocker Athletics.

Cassie Kosiba will head to American University, an NCAA DI institution in the Patriot League, in Washington D.C. She will serve as the Deputy Athletic Director and the Senior Woman Administrator.

"Cassie has made an immeasurable impact on our department, our student-athletes and our campus community," Athletic Director David Crum said. "Her leadership, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the Hardrockers have helped elevate every aspect of our athletic department. While we are certainly saddened to see her leave, we are incredibly grateful for everything she has done for South Dakota Mines and are excited to see her continue to excel in this next chapter."

Kosiba joined South Dakota Mines in July 2019 as Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator before being promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director in 2023. During her tenure, she played a vital role in overseeing athletic operations, gameday management, student-athlete welfare initiatives, conference relations and departmental administration. She also served as Interim Director of Athletics during the spring of 2024.

Prior to entering athletic administration, Kosiba spent 16 years as a collegiate basketball coach at both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels. She brought more than two decades of higher education and athletics experience to South Dakota Mines and quickly became a trusted leader across campus and throughout the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

"I'm incredibly grateful for my time at South Dakota Mines and for the opportunity to work alongside outstanding coaches, administrators and staff," Kosiba said. "Most of all, I'm thankful for the privilege of supporting our exceptional student-athletes."
Kosiba will begin her new role at American in August.

A national search for the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations will begin immediately. Susan Smith will serve as the interim Senior Woman Administrator.
