28-Point 4th Quarter Pushes Women to 4th Straight Win

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- Ryan Weiss started hot for South Dakota Mines setting the offensive tone for the game. Despite UCCS coming back in the 4th, a 7-0 run pushed the Hardrockers to a 60-53 lead and they never looked back.
 
How It Happened – 
 
In the first quarter, Ryan Weiss started out on fire, scoring 11 of the first 14 points for South Dakota Mines, staking them out to a 14-9 lead. Going into the second quarter, the Hardrockers held a 22-17 lead.
 
In the second quarter, it would be more of the same with Weiss scoring 9 points, giving her 20 at the half. Bailey Johnson was dishing as well with 5 assists at halftime and South Dakota Mines leading 39-36. UCCS was led by Maison White with 14 and Jasmine Jeffcoat had 5 rebounds.
 
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with UCCS tying the game up and taking a brief 47-45 lead with 1:47 to go. Going into the 4th, we would have a tie game at 49.
 
Early in the 4th, South Dakota Mines would retake the lead after consecutive layups from Madelyn Heiser and Sydnee Durtsche. A 7-0 run would push the Hardrocker lead to 60-53 with 6:20 to play. UCCS fought back, cutting the deficit back to 2, but South Dakota Mines answered with another 5-0 spurt, pushing the lead right back to 7. With 2:29 to play Heiser hit a turnaround, putting the Hardrockers up 9 and forcing a Mountain Lion timeout. South Dakota Mines would hold the lead, getting the 77-67 win.
