Hardrocker Women Get Set For Rivalry Weekend

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team is set to play host to Chadron State Thursday night in a rivalry Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup at Goodell Gymnasium in Rapid City, South Dakota, and will then welcome Black Hills State to the King Center Saturday night.

The Hardrockers come into the games with a 3-6 overall record and 3-5 mark in the conference. Last weekend Colorado School of Mines came to town where they escaped with a 66-52 victory. The Hardrockers had them on the ropes, but couldn't quite keep pace down the stretch.

With eight games officially played (one forfeit), the Hardrockers are scoring 64.6 ppg while opposing team are posting 68.6 ppg. South Dakota Mines is shooting 40 percent from the field and 38 percent from behind the arch.

Individually, the 'Rockers continue to be led by Ryan Weiss who is averaging 17.5 ppg and 6.8 rpg. On the season she has made 32 three-pointers and is good from downtown 46.4 percent of the time. Naomi Hidalgo and Michaela Shaklee are both averaging just over 7 ppg and Bailey Johnson is finding her stride with a 6.1 ppg offering.

Chadron State comes into the weekend with a 0-5 record. Their last time out was Jan. 9 where the Eagles fell to Westminster College, 84-63. CSC's leading scorer is Taryn Foxen who cashes in for 15.2 ppg while Jori Peters contributes with 9.4 ppg.

Thursday's game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. A limited number of pre-selected spectators will be admitted, and the game will be streamed live and for free on the Hardrocker Network at: www.gorockers.com with livestats as well.

On Saturday night, the Hardrockers face off against their biggest rival in the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets.

BHSU is 6-3 on the season. They lost their season opener at Western Colorado and won six games in a row before losing at Colorado Mesa, 65-58,on Jan. 9 and to Western Colorado 70-61 in overtime at home on Saturday night. Their standout is 5-9 senior Racquel Wientjes, who is averaging 23 points and 6 rebounds. She has tallied at least 28 points four times this winter. Morgan Ham, a 6-1 senior, is averaging 16 points.
