Weiss Earns RMAC POTW Accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- South Dakota School of Mines red-shirt sophomore Ryan Weiss was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week announced Monday by the league office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Weiss had one of the best weekends of her career for the Hardrockers as she was a big factor in SD Mines winning two RMAC road games this weekend.

The sophomore guard, from Ames, Iowa, totaled 57 points, and was 19-31 from the field (61 percent), including an impressive 13-22 from the three-point line (59 percent), and was 6-6 from the foul line. She also tallied two assists and logged 62 total minutes in the two games played.

In a win over CSUP on Friday (71-47), Weiss registered 24 points and was 7-13 from the field. In Saturday's victory over New Mexico Highlands (83-59), she had a career-high 33 points, including nine three-pointers made. She was 12-18 from the field.

"Ryan is an absolute competitor and very deserving of this recognition," said Hardrocker women's basketball head coach Jeri Jacobson. "She's constantly in the gym working on her game and getting hundreds of shots up (sometimes too much) and strives to be the best player she can be for our team."

After the weekend, Weiss went from eighth to second in the RMAC standings for points scored per game. She is now averaging 17.4 points per game and leads the conference in three-pointers (61) and is third in field goal percentage with .475.

The Industrial Engineering major is ranked third in the nation for three-pointers made per game (3.81) and is 11th for total three-pointers made (61).

"We are really finding our groove offensively right now," Jacobson said. "The post players have done a great job on the inside which has opened up opportunities for Ryan on the perimeter and she is taking advantage of it."
