Hardrocker Women Looking To Gain Ground In RMAC Standings

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- After a weekend full of great competition in which the South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball teams split a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games, the Hardrockers hit the road for one of its longer road trips of the season, traveling to CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands University this weekend.

After a heartbreaking loss in overtime to the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (77-75) Friday night, SD Mines bounced back and dropped the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Saturday (74-58) to improve to 6-9 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

The' Rockers are just outside the bubble in the RMAC standings, heading into the weekend in 11th place, two game out of the Top 8. Both CSU-Pueblo (4-12, 3-8) and New Mexico Highlands (1-15, 0-11) are below SD Mines in the rankings with the Thunderwolves sitting in 12th and the Cowgirls registering at 16th.  Colorado Christian and Regis are both 5-6 in the RMAC and are just a spot ahead of SD Mines while MSU Denver is 6-5 and currently holding the No. 8 spot.

SD Mines currently has the RMAC's fourth-best scoring offense averaging 66.6 ppg while the defense is ranked eighth allowing 61.8 markers a night. Ryan Weiss leads the 'Rockers in scoring and is seventh in the RMAC with 15.8 ppg. She is also first in the conference for three-pointers per game (3.4). Weiss has also snuck onto the SD Mines' all-time three-pointers made list. She currently has 106 career buckets from downtown that puts her at 19th all-time as a Hardrocker.

Anna Haugen, who is second on the team this season averaging 10.9 ppg and 9.8 rebounds per game, moved to the No. 7 spot for career rebounds with 808. She also is No. 19 all-time in assists with 183 in her Hardrocker career.

Sami Steffeck, who is averaging 8.6 ppg, continues to add to her career three-pointers made record with her total now at 217. She is also 28 points from breaching 1,000 points as a 'Rockers.  

Heading into the weekend, SD Mines faces The CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves on Friday night in Pueblo, Colorado.

The Thunderwolves are coming off a weekend sweep against MSU Denver (57-51) and Chadron State (78-67). JaNaiya Davis earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Week while Sydni Williams received RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award last week. Davis leads the Thunderwolves, averaging 15.9 ppg which is fifth in the RMAC. Williams averages 11.2 ppg and 8.2 rpg, which sits fourth in the conference.

Saturday, the 'Rockers visit Las Vegas, New Mexico, where the Cowgirls are 0-11 in conference play and 1-15 overall. Their lone win came back in November against Northern New Mexico College. They are led by Jordyn Lewis who averages 17.5 ppg, which is second in the RMAC. Ashley Antone also averages 11.8 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
