RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball teams has designated Friday night's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball game against University of Colorado Colorado Springs as its "Play4Kay" Cancer Awareness game The Hardrockers encourage all their fans to wear pink to the game to support the 'Rockers and help promote and raise awareness for the fight against Cancer.
"Play4Kay" is an event that unites players, coaches and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses on the court. The "Play4Kay" initiative is one of the largest fundraiser from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and plays a major role in the success to promote Cancer Awareness.
"Play4Kay" is a part of The
Kay Yow Cancer Fund, initially started by the vision of the former passionate, inspiring and extraordinary North Carolina State University hall of fame coach Kay Yow. The Fund is a charitable organization committed to finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research and related programs, assisting the underserved, and unifying people for a common cause. Since the Fund's inception, more than $5 million has been awarded for scientific research and related programs focused on women's cancers and serving the underserved.
"This is one of my favorite nights," said Hardrocker women's basketball head coach
Ryan Larsen. "Anytime our program has an opportunity like this to promote such an amazing event and campaign we are all for it. I really hope all our Hardrocker fans will join us Friday to support this cause by wearing pink."
