RAPID CITY, S.D. ---- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team will hit the road for the second-straight weekend as they travel to Chadron, Nebraska and Denver, Colorado, for some Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Hardrockers will rematch against Chadron State Friday in a 5:30 p.m. matchup in Nebraska.
Chadron State is 4-19 overall this season and 3-14 in conference. With this conference record, the Eagles sit in 14
th place. Chadron State has won one of their last five -- that win against Colorado School of Mines (76-73) on Jan. 26. Their four losses have come against Black Hills State (72-56), South Dakota School of Mines (60-45), Colorado School of Mines (81-52) and University of Colorado Colorado Springs (80-45).
Chadron State is led by Taryn Foxen who averages 11.5 points per game and leads the team in steals with 28. Jessica Harvey follows Foxen by averaging 10.6 points per game. Harvey leads the team in three-point percentage at 38.4 percentage.
On Saturday the Lady Rockers set their sights for the second time this season on Metropolitan State University of Denver in Denver, CO. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
This season MSU Denver has an overall record of 11-12 and a conference record of 10-7, which puts them in seventh place in the RMAC standings.
The Roadrunners have won three of their last five game -- with wins coming against University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (60-56), South Dakota School of Mines (70-38), and Black Hills State (69-54). The Roadrunners have however lost their last two games at the hands of University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (84-69) and most recently Colorado School of Mines (69-63).
Jaelynn Smith continues to lead the Roadrunners as the only player in NCAA Division II to average at least 15.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.8 steals. She leads the RMAC in free throws made and attempted and is the league-leader in assists. After being 0-4, 3-8 and 5-10 at various points of the season, the 11-12 Roadrunners appear to be finishing strong.
Taylor Molstad leads the Hardrockers in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. She needs to register 37 more markers to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Sami Steffeck, who is second all-time in three-pointers made, has 53 on the season and 165 in her career) is averaging 10.4 points on the season.
Anna Haugen leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 8.6 per game while cashing in for 7.5 ppg.
