Hardrocker Women Welcome MSUD, Chadron For RMAC Weekend

Rapid City, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team remains at home this weekend for two more exciting Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchups as the Hardrocker women welcome MSU Denver on Friday followed by a bout against rival Chadron State College Saturday afternoon.

MSU Denver has an overall season record of 9-10 and an RMAC mark of 8-5, which puts them in fifth place in the RMAC standings.

In the Roadrunners last five games, MSUD is 4-1 with wins coming against CSU Pueblo (82-51), New Mexico Highlands (81-41), Colorado School of Mines (67-58), and most recently UCCS (60-56). Their lone loss in that span came against Westminster College (73-71).

The Roadrunners are led by Jaelynn Smith, who has registered 308 points this season. She leads the team with 16.2 points per game, and has tallied 107 total assists. Emily Hartegan is averaging 13.5 points per game and leads the Roadrunners in rebounds with 141, averaging 8.3 per game.

The Hardrockers have met up with the Roadrunners seven times in the past with MSUD holding a slight 4-3 record.

Saturday brings another exciting matchup for the Lady 'Rockers as they face Chadron State College at 3:30 p.m.  tip-off. The Eagles have an overall record of 4-15 and 3-10 in conference action. Their record puts them in 14th place in the RMAC standings.

Chadron State is 1-4 in their last five games. Their losses came against Dixie State (87-52), New Mexico Highlands (58-56), CSU Pueblo (68-67) and UCCS (66-64). Their lone win came in their most recent game vs Colorado School of Mines (76-73).

The Lady Eagles are led by Taryn Foxen, who is averaging 11.9 points per game and has a team high 23 steals. Jessica Harvey follows close behind averaging 11.1 points per game. These two programs have met 61 times in the past, Chadron has the lead 34-27.

Last weekend the Lady Rockers played host to two RMAC teams, the first game was against CSU Pueblo. A slow start from the Hardrockers put them behind early, at the end of the first quarter they found themselves down 11-6. The second quarter was much closer, CSU pueblo scored 15 points and the Hardrockers scored 14. At halftime the score was 26-20 in favor of CSU Pueblo. The Lady Rockers pushed hard in the third quarter, but again were matched by CSU Pueblo.

The South Dakota Mines women are 6-11 for the season and 3-10 in the conference.  Their only senior, Taylor Molstad, a 5-10 Rapid City product, is the scoring leader at 11.5 points. She was tabbed the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week after shooting 65 percent from the field and scoring 41 points in two games last weekend.

Next is Sami Steffeck, a 5-10 junior, who is averaging 10.2 points. She also hit a milestone this past weekend moving into second place all-time for three-pointers. After notching eight last weekend, Steffeck passed Anne Konechne-Traphagen (153) with 154.
 Another junior, 5-11 Anna Haugen, is fourth in the RMAC in rebounding at 7.8 a game, the same as her scoring average.

The Lady Rockers are second in the conference in free throw shooting at 72.8 percent.
