Lady 'Rockers Hunting For First RMAC Win This Weekend

Rapid City, S.D.--- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team hits the road this weekend for two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchups, traveling to Durango, Colorado Saturday to square off against Fort Lewis College and will then challenge Adams State University Sunday in Alamosa, Colorado.

Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. against Fort Lewis College Friday night.

FLC (4-4, 1-2 RMAC) is 2-0 at home this year picking up victories against Northern New Mexico and University of the Southwest. This past weekend, the Skyhawks rolled to an 88-51 victory for the second time this season against New Mexico Highlands --- and then fell to CSU-Pueblo, 70-53, in Pueblo, Colorado.
 
Fort Lewis averages 74 points and allow 59 points, making 39 percent from the field and holding opponents to a 35 percent clip.

Alyssa Yocky continues to lead the team in scoring at 13.5 per game and in rebounds at 7.6 per game, she's also shooting 56 percent (39-70) from the field and 5-10 from three, while going 25-31 (81) at the foul line. Yocky is near the top on the team in steals (14) and in blocks (4).

Jordan Carter is second in scoring for the Skyhawks at 12.9 per game, while making 47-93 (51) from the field and tied for second in rebounds with Kayla Herrera at 6.4. Herrera is third on the team in scoring at 10.8, had hit 11 three-pointers, leads the team in assists with 23 and is tied for the team lead in both steals (15) and blocks (5). She's tied with Carter for the lead in blocks and tied with Sydney Candelaria for the team lead in steals.

Candelaria is just short of averaging double-figures in scoring at 9.3 per game, while adding 4.3 rebounds. Alyssa Adams, Tanisha Begay, MorningRose Tobey and Aubre Fortner all average at least four points a game as well.

FLC ranks high in several categories in the RMAC and nationally including second in the RMAC and 27th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.13), first in the RMAC and 77th nationally in assists (122), second in the RMAC and 64th nationally in assists per game (15.3), third in the RMAC and 82nd nationally in defensive rebounds per game (28), third in the RMAC and 28th nationally in field goal percentage defense (34.7).
 
On Sunday the Hardrockers take on Adams State University at 3:30pm.

Offensively, the Grizzlies are averaging 64.4 points per game and posting a 38.9 shooting percentage in five games played. Both marks rank in the Top 10 in the RMAC this season.

Defensively, Adams State is allowing 68.6 points to the opposition per contest on 37.6% shooting. The Grizzlies are shooting well from the free throw line averaging 78.5%, which is the top percentage in the conference. Adams State averages 41.2 rebounds per games, with 29.0 coming on defense on average. The overall mark is second in the RMAC, while the defensive mark is tops in the conference.

Leading the way for the Grizzlies offense is Stephanie Ruiz who averages 18.6 points per contest. her average is currently third in the RMAC in scoring. Marshell Hollins is second in scoring for the Grizzlies at 8.4 points per game. Brooke Neal is right behind her averaging 8.0 points. Ki'asha Harris is the team's top rebounder at 7.4 per contest which is seventh in the RMAC. Neal is not far behind at even 7.0 boards per game. Her average is tied for 10th in the conference. Hollins as been a go to guard for the Grizzlies when it comes to facilitating the offense as she leads the team in assists with 3.2 per game. Her assists average ranks tied for ninth in the RMAC entering this weekend.

Defensively, the Grizzlies have two of the conference's best shot blockers in Maddie Dorris and Lowendie Laporal. The pair is tied for sixth in the RMAC averaging 1.0 blocks per contest.

Also providing a spark on defense is a trio of guards in Ruiz, Hollins, and Neal. The trio is tied for 23rd in steals with an average of 1.4 per game. Ruiz is also the RMAC leader in minutes per game. The sophomore is averaging 37.3 minutes per contest.

The Hardrockers are off to a 2-4 overall start and 0-3 mark in the RMAC, having faced some tough teams to start the season including Sioux Falls (currently 7-1), Black Hills State and both Dixie State and Westminster. This past weekend at home, the Hardrockers fell just short against Dixie State (70-62) and Westminster (66-61). South Dakota Mines averages 67 points and allows 64 points, making 41 percent from the field and allowing 39 percent.

Taylor Molstad leads the 'Rockers, averaging 10.7 points per game, along with 2.8 rebounds. Anna Haugen tallies 9.7 points and pulls down 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 49 percent from the field (21-43). Sami Steffeck is at 9.2 points per game and Molly McCabe adds 8.5.
 
Defensively, SD Mines is seventh in the conference in defense allowing 63.5 points per contest. Haugen is also the 'Rockers best rebounder at 7.5 boards per game. She is sixth in the RMAC with her average. Molly McCabe is second on the team with 6/0 rebounding averaging.

Haugen and Molstad also guide the Hardrockers offense in assists. Haugen is 13th in the conference with 2.7 assists per game, while Molstad is 17th at 2.5. Protecting the rim for the 'Rockers is Marissa Hirchert who has five block on the season. She averages 0.8 per game which is 13th in the RMAC. Molstad leads the defense from a steals standpoint with 1.5 per game. Hirchert is not far behind at 1.2 steals per contest.
