Lady Hardrockers Looking To Define Themselves This Weekend

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team will host a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games this weekend at the King Center. These will be the Lady Hardrocker' final games before Christmas as SD Mines welcomes Chadron State on Friday and Regis University Saturday afternoon.

Last weekend the SD Mines women split results, winning against Colorado Christian on Friday (71-60) and then were narrowly defeated by Colorado Mines in overtime on Saturday (64-61). The Lady 'Rockers head into this weekend's matchups with a 3-6 overall record and 1-3 in the RMAC.

Chadron State (Chadron, Neb.) will come to the King Center for a Friday night contest. The Eagles are 1-6 on the season and 1-3 in the RMAC. CSC's lone win was against Colorado Christian.

"Teams are trying to find their identity right now --- including ourselves," said Hardrocker women's basketball head coach Ryan Larsen. "Chadron State is more than capable of beating anybody on any given night."

Junior guard Kalli Feddersen has paced the Eagles, leading the team with over 12 points and six rebounds per game. Feddersen has scored at least 15 points in their last three games.

Coach Larsen commented that the Eagles can be a dangerous team.

"They've got some really good, dynamic guards that can score in all three phases," Larsen added.

Saturday may prove to be the tougher matchup of the weekend as the Hardrockers host Regis University (Denver, Colo.). The Rangers are 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the RMAC. Their lone loss came against Colorado Mines.

"Regis is a very good team," Larsen said. "They have a few NCAA Div. I transfers. Saturday is going to be a really good challenge for us."

Regis, ranked third in the RMAC standings heading into the weekend, averages 65.4 points per game, which the Hardrockers have matched thus far by scoring 65.0 per game. However, Regis has allowed nearly seven fewer points per game through the season than the 'Lady Rockers.

The Hardrockers are sitting 10th right now in the RMAC. They are currently ranked fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (.409), third in assists (15.8 per game) and fourth in three-point goals made (7.2 per game).

Individually, a number of SD Mines players are starting to find their stride. Junior Krista Showalter leads the conference in assists with 49 (5.4 per game); junior Payton Humpal is seventh for three-pointers made (16) and 12th in three-point goal percentage (.381);  and senior Megan Rohrer is second in total blocked shots with 14.

"We just need to be concerned about ourselves and getting better," Larsen said. "If we just clean a few things up, a few more jumpers go in, I really like our chances on the weekend."

Friday's game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start while Saturday's matchup will tipoff at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed on the RMAC Network at Stretch Internet by logging onto: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/sdsmt/ .
