RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team is approaching their second weekend of the season. The Lady Hardrockers opened their season with a pair of games in New Mexico.
Last Friday the Lady 'Rockers lost a close contest to Eastern New Mexico, falling, 69-66, in overtime. Then on Saturday the Hardrockers dropped their second game of the season to Texas – Permian Basin, 57-50.
Despite dropping both contests, SD Mines still put up some solid statistics and even earned the first-ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor as senior
Megan Rohrer was recognized for her performance (seven blocks, 18 rebounds).
This coming weekend the Lady Rockers will travel to Sioux Falls for a pair of games. On Friday SD Mines will take on the University of Sioux Falls. USF is 1-0 on the season after defeating Presentation College earlier this week. The Cougars will be a challenge as they return the core of their team after winning the Northern Sun championship and taking a trip to the national tournament last year.
Saturday will feature a matchup against Southwest Minnesota State. SMSU has started off the season 0-2 and will take on SD Mines in Sioux Falls.
"Really excited about the challenge we have this weekend," said women's basketball head coach
Ryan Larsen. "There are so many more positives than negatives to take from last weekend. We really like the direction we are going."
This weekend of matchups will be a very familiar one for the Hardrocker Family. Women's basketball assistant coach
Hope Bonlander has previously worked as a graduate assistant for USF and spent her college days playing for SMSU.
Friday's game is slated for 7 p.m. (MST) while Saturday's tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. (MST). Watch the broadcast and get the livestats live at:
