Three Hardrockers Take First at RMAC Indoor Championships

GUNNISON, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Track & Field had a great weekend at the RMAC Championships, picking up three RMAC Championships for the first time in the NCAA DII era.

Isaac Haynie highlighted the Hardrocker runners with first place in the 60h event. His career-best 8.11 put him in first by 0.02 seconds.

In the high jump, Everett Gilbert took home first place after recording a 2.01m mark. He shared first place with UCCS' Jake Hall.

Augustus Fink collected first place in the weight throw for the Hardrockers. His last throw of 20.21m was an NCAA DII mark and the first-place throw. As of now, Fink is qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with his career-best 20.34m throw at the SDSU Indoor Classic.

Merek Ranstorm scored for the Hardrockers after running an 8.21 in the 60h event, picking up fourth place. The 4x400 relay of Lane Thomas, Haynie, Brian Keairnes and Jackson Stafford picked up fifth place. Logan Haynie highlighted the Rockers in the heptathlon with fourth place and 4,701 points. In the shot put, Cooper Stevens threw a career-best 16.42m to collect fifth place.

The Hardrocker women saw three total events at the RMAC Championships. Emma Moody, Grace Pridgeon, Emily Jones and Emily Hubmer all ran a 4:15.94 in the 4x400 relay. Jones, Moody, Addison Smetana and Clare Fischer all combined for a 13:33.43 in the distance medley relay.

Emily Novak put up a career-best 2,669 in the pentathlon for the Hardrockers. Hubmer tallied 2,399 points in the pentathlon.

The Hardrocker men picked up seventh place, while the women recorded 15th. On the men's side, the distance between third and seventh place was just 14.5 points.

UCCS won both the men's and women's championships. Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa rounded out the top three for the men, while New Mexico Highlands and Colorado School of Mines were both in the top three on the women's side.

What's Next

If everything holds, Fink will head to the NCAA Championships on Mar. 13-14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After that, the outdoor season will start on Mar. 21 at the Chadron State Invitational.
