Multiple Hardrockers Post Top Three Finishes, Men Take 5th at RMAC Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Men's Track & Field, highlighted by Merek Ranstrom's 400h championship, took fifth place at the 2026 RMAC Championships.

Merek Ranstrom ran a career-best 51.98 in the 400h event for first place and an NCAA DII provisional mark. His 14.26 in the 110h was a provisional mark and good enough for second place. Isaac Haynie picked up fourth in both the 110h and 400h events.  
On the throwing side, Augustus Fink took second place in the hammer throw with his provisional mark of 59.46m, a new career best. Isaiah Thurman finished behind him in fourth with his 58.84m throw. Fink also took 12th in the discus and 17th in the shot put. Morgan Sandal placed fourth in the javelin throw with his career-best 59.29m throw.

Logan Haynie recorded second place in the pole vault for the Hardrockers, jumping a career-best and provisional 4.87m. Zachary Vanicek took fourth with his 4.62m mark. Everett Gilbert collected third in the high jump after his 2.00m jump.

The 4x400 relay of Ranstrom, Alexander Pygott, Brian Keairnes and Lane Thomas picked up sixth place, clocking in at 3:16.74.

Overall, the men's team recorded fifth place, their best performance in NCAA DII history at the RMAC Championship.

On the women's side, the Hardrockers picked up 15th place at the championship.

Reese Terwilliger recorded 11th place in the shot put event and 17th in the discus throw. Adisyn Schenck recorded 16th in the shot put, 19th in the hammer and 22nd in the javelin throw.

Addison Smetana recorded 22nd in the 10,000m, running a 40:41.16. The 4x400 relay of Emma Moody, Emily Hubmer, Grace Pridgeon and Emily Jones took 11th place. Hubmer collected 11th in the heptathlon, while Emily Novak finished in 14th.

Colorado School of Mines won the men's championship, followed by UCCS and Colorado Mesa. In the women's championship, UCCS won the trophy with Colorado Mesa in second and Colorado School of Mines in third.

What's Next

The Rockers will go to the Loper Twilight from May 8-9 at Nebraska Kearney. The NCAA Outdoor Championships are scheduled for May 21-23 in Emporia, Kansas.
