DURANGO, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball lost their final regular season road game at Fort Lewis on Saturday, 56-62.
The Skyhawks outscored the Hardrockers 13-12 in the first quarter. Fort Lewis took a 7-2 lead in the first quarter with all seven points scored by Natalie Guanella. An 8-0 Rockers run made the score 12-10 with 48 seconds left. Guanella made a three-pointer late to give the Skyhawks a 13-12 advantage.
Fort Lewis won the second quarter 13-6 to go up 26-18 at halftime. After Guanella drained another three-point basket, the Rockers tied the game at 16-16. With a three-point deficit at the 2:33 mark, a Skyhawks 5-0 run gave them an eight-point advantage after 20 minutes.
In a high-scoring third quarter, Fort Lewis outscored South Dakota Mines 26-23. Fort Lewis started the half with a 9-4 run to go up 35-22 at the 6:41 mark. The Hardrockers cut it down to a seven-point game midway through the quarter. However, the Skyhawks responded with a run and led 52-41 at the end of the third.
While the Hardrockers won the fourth quarter 15-10, the Skyhawks held on to win 62-56.
Addison Miranda made the score 48-54 with 5:38 remaining. With 31 seconds left,
Emma Martin put in a layup to make it a two-point deficit. Fort Lewis would make two free throws and a layup at the end to win 62-56.
Savea Mansfield led the Rockers with 14 points on 5-for-9 field goal shooting. She also had six rebounds and two steals.
Morning Grace Spotted Bear tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Miranda had 11 points and five rebounds.
South Dakota Mines shot 38.8% from the field and 26.7% from three-point range. They collected 28 points in the paint and 16 points off 13 turnovers.
With the loss, the Rockers moved to 9-17 overall and 7-11 in the RMAC.
What's Next
The Hardrockers return home next weekend to face #4 Colorado Mesa on Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m., followed by Western Colorado on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. Thursday's game is Hardrocker Mental Wellness Night and Saturday's is Senior Day.
