BROOKINGS, S.D. – For the third week in a row, South Dakota Mines Track & Field broke a record, this time from
Augustus Fink in the weight throw and
Owen Johnson in the mile at the SDSU Indoor Classic.
For the second week in a row,
Augustus Fink broke the weight throw record. After throwing a 19.47m last week, Fink picked up a 20.34m mark this week. He took second place in the event and saw an NCAA DII provisional mark.
Owen Johnson broke the Hardrocker mile record previously held by
Cole Tatro, running a 4:17.54 in the event.
In the 200m dash on Saturday,
Noah Feldt ran a 21.98 for fifth place out of 92 runners. Zach Freise's 2:00.52 in the 800m marked a season best and 13
th place.
Joran Lamoreaux ran a career-best 14:53.70 in the 5000m for ninth place out of 79 total competitors.
Zachary Vanicek recorded a 4.55m in the pole vault for eighth place.
Cooper Stevens' 15.27m in the shot put placed him in ninth out of 42 total throwers.
On the women's side,
Addison Smetana highlighted the runners with an 18:49.62 in the 5000m event, a new career best.
Clare Fischer ran a career-best 5:28.18 in the mile for the Hardrockers.
Kat Tvrdy saw a career best in the 800m, running a 2:33.51.
Emily Jones ran a 2:21.83 in the 800m and a 5:23.63 in the mile, both marked as career bests.
Emily Novak recorded a 10.02 in the 60h event for a new career best, while
Emily Hubmer's 10.13 was also a career best.
Adisyn Schenck threw a 12.14m in the shot put for 19
th place, while
Josie Byrne threw a career-best 11.00m for 23
rd out of 45 throwers. Byrne also saw a career-best in the weight throw with a mark of 13.30m.
What's Next
The Hardrockers will go to their last meet before the RMAC Championships next week at the Myrle Hansen Open at Black Hills State. The RMAC Indoor Championships are scheduled for Feb. 27-28 in Gunnison, Colorado.
