PUEBLO, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Soccer attempted a comeback but fell short at #8 CSU Pueblo on Sunday afternoon.
The ThunderWolves started the game hot, picking up a 3-0 lead at halftime. The Rockers applied pressure, picking up three shots on goal in the half from
Rider Grow,
Bennett Dykstra and
Parker Yocom.
South Dakota Mines went to work in the second half after
Claudio Otto saved three shots in the beginning of the half. The Rockers answered back with four shots and a goal in the 72
nd minute from
Erik Castanon. Grow assisted on the goal to make the score 3-1.
In the 83
rd minute,
Zach Peroff scored off a
Lucas Cardona throw-in to make it a one-goal game. However, the ThunderWolves responded with a goal in the 87
th minute to win 4-2.
Castanon totaled three shots, two shots on goal and one goal.
Wyatt VanHorn recorded two shots and
Nickolas North picked up two shots and one shot on goal. Otto tied a season high with five saves on 12 shots faced.
The Hardrockers ended their ranked road trip with a 4-2 loss at #8 CSU Pueblo, compiling an 0-2-1 record on the trip against teams all in the top 20 of the national rankings.
What's Next
South Dakota Mines returns home next week to begin a four-game homestand. They open with MSU Denver on Oct. 8, followed by Colorado Christian on Oct. 11.
