RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Soccer earned a 1-0 victory against MSU Denver on Friday, picking up their first win over the Roadrunners since 2016.
In a back-and-forth highly contested first half, both teams went into halftime tied 0-0. The Hardrockers recorded eight shots in the half, with seven different players collecting a shot. The lone shot on goal came from

Claudio Otto made two saves in the first half.
South Dakota Mines came out in the second half firing, as the Rockers put two shots on target in the first 10 minutes.
After Roadrunners goalkeeper Dominic Miller made a phenomenal save, the Rockers were set for a corner kick. After Eric Castanon took the corner, a Roadrunners defender put it in his own net off a header, making the score 1-0 in favor of South Dakota Mines.
MSU Denver attempted a comeback late in the game, but the Hardrocker defense kept them out of the net to win 1-0.
Otto made three saves with a clean sheet for the Rockers.
Nickolas North recorded two shots and one shot on goal. Henriksen, Castanon and
Shon West all tallied a shot on goal. The Rockers outshot the Roadrunners 12-11 and 4-3 with shots on goal.
For the Hardrockers, this was their first victory over MSU Denver since Oct. 14, 2016. They snapped a 14-game losing streak with their first-ever victory over the Roadrunners in Rapid City.
South Dakota Mines moved up to a tie for fourth place in the RMAC. They are tied with Regis, Colorado Mesa and Westminster.

The Hardrockers welcome Colorado Christian on Sunday at 1 p.m. They will stay at home next week to take on Westminster on Oct. 16 and Colorado Mesa on Oct. 18.
