Miranda's Season-High 24 Points Guides Rockers over Chadron State

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Women's Basketball picked up a statement 76-59 win over Chadron State on Thursday night.

The Hardrockers dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Eagles 21-10. Addison Miranda, Carolina Ruiz Molina and Emma Martin all hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the game. After the Eagles responded with five straight points, the Hardrockers went on a 10-0 run to go up 19-5. They led 21-10 at the end of the quarter.

Chadron State outscored the Hardrockers 17-15 in the second quarter. Midway through the quarter, they brought it down to a three-point game. However, South Dakota Mines went on a 9-0 run to go up 31-19. The Rockers held a 36-27 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, South Dakota Mines outscored Chadron State 23-14. They started the quarter on a 7-0 run to go up 43-27. The Rockers maintained a strong lead throughout the quarter and put up five consecutive points at the end. In total, Miranda had 12 points in the quarter for the Hardrockers.

The Eagles' 18-17 fourth quarter was not enough as the Rockers won 76-59. After they brought it down to an 11-point game, Miranda drained another three-pointer to make it 62-48. She extended it to a 71-53 game with 2:22 left. The Hardrockers picked up their second win over Chadron State this season and their third straight at home.

Miranda recorded a career-best 24 points on 8-for-13 field goal shooting. She was 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Morning Grace Spotted Bear picked up her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. She also had five assists and two steals. Savea Mansfield collected 11 points, five rebounds and four assists on 4-for-5 field goal shooting.

South Dakota Mines shot 48.1% from the field, including a 64.2% clip in the third quarter. They were also 46.4% from three-point range, their best percentage of the season. The Rockers totaled 32 rebounds, 20 assists, 22 points in the paint and 16 points off turnovers.

With the win, South Dakota Mines moved to 7-12 overall and 5-6 in the RMAC.

What's Next

The Hardrockers are on the road for three straight games, starting with Black Hills State on Saturday at 4 p.m. After a trip to UCCS and Colorado Christian next weekend, they return home on Feb. 12 to face Regis at 5:30 p.m.
