SPEARFISH, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Women's Basketball fell to Black Hills State 41-58 on Saturday night.
The Hardrockers outscored the Yellow Jackets 18-10 in the first quarter. With an 8-8 tie at the 5:13 mark, the Hardrockers went on an 8-0 run.
Alexis Backhaus had all the points in that stretch. They led 18-10 after the first 10 minutes.
Black Hills State outscored South Dakota Mines 21-2 in the second quarter. They led at 31-20 over the Haardrockers at halftime.
Both teams put up seven points in the third quarter.
Addison Miranda made it an eight-point game with 2:54 left in the quarter. However, the Yellow Jackets held their 11-point lead at the end of the quarter.
The Yellow Jackets sealed the win after outscoring the Rockers 20-14 in the fourth. Black Hills State held a double-digit lead for the entire quarter.
Morning Grace Spotted Bear put up her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also had three steals, two assists and one block. Backhaus totaled 10 points and six rebounds.
South Dakota Mines totaled 20 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers and nine second chance points.
With the loss, the Hardrockers moved to 7-13 overall and 5-7 in the RMAC.
What's Next
South Dakota Mines will stay on the road to face UCCS and Colorado Christian next weekend. They return home to take on Feb. 12 to take on Regis at 5:30 p.m.
