BISMARCK, N.D. – South Dakota Mines Track & Field completed the UMary Winter Classic with second place for the men and eighth place for the women.
The South Dakota Mines Men's team picked up second place out of nine teams, their second top two finish of the season.
In the 800-meter event, five Hardrockers finished in the top eight.
Jackson Stafford highlighted with first place, clocking in at 1:55.31.
John Strabala,
Owen Johnson,
Sawyer Rueckert and Zach Freise all ran season-bests in the event.
Merek Ranstorm recorded second in the 60 hurdles event, while
Isaac Haynie picked up third. The Hardrockers 4x400 relay of
Brian Keairnes,
Alexander Pygott, Haynie and Stafford collected third place with a time of 3:26.41.
Everett Gilbert recorded an NCAA DII provisional mark in the high jump at 2.04m, placing him in second.
Zachary Vanicek picked up third in the pole vault, jumping at 4.63m, a new career best.
Augustus Fink also hit an NCAA DII provisional mark in the weight throw. His throw of 18.50m gave him second place and a new career high.
On the women's side, the Hardrockers showed improvement from last week and recorded eighth place at the UMary Winter Classic.
Emma Moody ran a 27.95 in the 200m for 15
th place. In her first career 600m event,
Emily Jones ran a 1:43.77, placing her in ninth.
South Dakota Mines' 4x400 relay of Moody, Jones and
Emily Novak collected third place, clocking in at 4:22.67.
Adisyn Schenck threw a 12.20m in the shot put for sixth place out of 24 competitors.
What's Next
The Hardrockers are back in action on Saturday at the Don Holst Open, hosted by Chadron State. They will travel to Dakota Wesleyan for the SWU Alumni Open on Feb. 7.
