PUEBLO, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Football fell to #6 Colorado State Pueblo to open the 2025 season.
CSU Pueblo took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. The highlight moment of the first half for South Dakota Mines came with 10:32 left in the second quarter.
Aiden Werlinger forced a fumble and
Charlie Johnson picked it up for a Hardrockers turnover.
However, the ThunderWolves defense played well in the first half as they shutout the Hardrockers with a 22-0 lead at halftime.
The ThunderWolves recorded three touchdowns in the second half to finalize the game with a 43-0 victory over South Dakota Mines.
In his collegiate debut, freshman
Jacoby Ogbonna led the Hardrocker receivers with seven catches for 93 yards, including a 25-yard catch in the third quarter.
Ashur Carraha and
Gage Baker split time at quarterback on Thursday. Carraha went 9-for-20 for 51 yards, while Baker was 13-for-25 with 123 yards passing and 28 yards rushing.
On the defensive side,
Evan Hatton led the game with nine total tackles.
Will Lester and
Charlie Johnson both recorded eight tackles. Werlinger had 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble, while
Zachary Young tallied 1.5 tackles for loss. Punter
Sam Eccles averaged 41.8 yards per punt with a long of 47 yards.
What's Next
The Hardrockers will look for a response in their first home game of the season on Sept. 4 against Michigan Tech at 6 p.m. The Huskies knocked off #16 Bemidji State on Thursday night to open their season.
