Hardrockers to Compete in Three Last Chance Meets

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Hardrocker men's and women's track and field teams will look to break through with some top times and distances with three last chance meets Friday and Saturday.

With the hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships May 23-25 in Emporia, Kan., small contingents will compete in the Azusa Pacific Franson Last Chance Meet in Azusa, Calif., Friday and Saturday, at the Concordia Twilight in Seward, Kan., Friday and the 2024 Loper Twilight in Kearney, Neb., on Saturday.

The Hardrockers are coming off strong performances two weeks ago in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Grand Junction, Colo. The 'Rocker men had their best-ever finish in the meet with a sixth-place showing, while the women placed 10th.

Leading the way was Jaycie Stubbs, who won her fourth consecutive women's javelin title to become the first Hardrocker athlete to win four straight. Her best toss of 42.47 meters (139-feet, 4 inches) was also a school record. Stubbs also set the school mark in the shot put at 14.15 meters. She is a provisional qualifier for the NCAAs in those two events.

Aidan Thompson was second in the men's decathlon with 6,445 points, which is a school record. He is a provisional qualifier for the NCAAs in that event.

Allyson Heiden broke the school-record in the women's 10K, running it in a time of 38 minutes, 34.55 seconds.

The men's 4X400 relay team of Lane Thomas, Eddie Johnson, Ethan Pitlick and Thomas Greisen finished in third place with a school-record time of 3:15.99.
