RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Hardrocker men's and women's track and field teams competed in a pair of last chance meets Friday and had several strong performances.
A majority of Hardrockers who competed Friday participated in the Concordia Twilight meet in Seward, Neb., with a small contingent in Azusa, Calif., for the Azusa Pacific Franson Last Chance Meet.
Late Friday night in California, Allyson Heiden broke her own school record in the 5K run by placing 20th in a time of 17 minutes, 33.78 seconds. Clare Fischer finished in 35th place in 18:11.40 and Alana Howard was 45th in 19:15.13.
In the men's 10,000, Joran Lamoreaux finished 16th in a time of 31:17.80, a personal best that moved him into second place all-time in the event for the Hardrockers. In the men's 5,000 in Azusa, Tristan Enders led the Hardrockers with a 53rd-place finish in 15:05.47. Teammate Zach Hentschel was 67th in 15:22.32, followed by Aidan Rivers in 92nd place in 15:58.94, a personal best. There were 108 runners in the race.
At Concordia, Morgan Sandal was eighth in the unseeded javelin at 53.96m (177-0), which is not only a personal best but puts him second all-time for the Hardrockers. Cole Dobberstein placed second in the men's 400-meter hurdles in 54.48 and Jaycie Stubbs led the Hardrocker women as she was third in the javelin at 42.31 meters (138-feet, 9 inches).
Also for the Hardrocker men in Nebraska, Cole Tatro placed sixth in the 1,500 run in a personal record time of 4:04.90 and Isaiah Thurman was sixth in the men's hammer throw at 49.65m (162-10).
Ethan Pitlick was ninth in the 400 in 50.11 and Kevin Osmanski was ninth in the unseeded shot put at 13.62 (44-8 ¼). Osmanski was also 13th in the hammer throw at 45.64m (149-9), with Thomas Greisen 17th in the 800 in 1:55.19.
Eli Huot was 21st in the hammer at 39.65, while Ian Cone was 22nd in the unseeded discus at 36.52, with Osmanski 24th at 34.26.
Other finishes for the Hardrocker women, Abbie Saline was 12th in the 1,500 in a personal record time of 4:55.58, while Laine Mannes was 18th in a personal record 5:11.49.
Josie Byrne was 13th in the 100 prelims in 14.31 and 20th in the javelin with a personal best 26.26 meters, while Adeline Wilson was 16th in the 400 in a personal record time of 1:02.90.
