RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's track and field teams concluded the large two-day USD Early Bird Open in Vermillion Saturday with four top-10 finishes.
Leading the way for the Hardrocker men was junior
Aidan Thompson, who finished fourth in the decathlon. Thompson scored 6,148 points in the 10-event competition, including two wins. Thompson captured the 1,500-meter run in 4 minutes, 49.01 seconds, also winning the shot put at 13.04 meters (42- feet, 9 ½ inches). He also finished second in the discus at 39.85m (130-9) and third in the javelin at 42.72m (142-2), third in the pole vault at 3.80m (12-5 ½) and third in the high jump at 1.91m (6-3 ¼).
Also for the South Dakota Mines men on Saturday, senior
Reid Kaiser finished eighth in the discus at 44.29m (145-3), which is a personal record. Freshman
Morgan Sandal had a personal record in the javelin as he finished eighth at 51.24m (168-1).
Freshman
Sawyer Nelson finished seventh in the men's triple jump at 13.51m (44-4) and ninth in the high jump at 1.85m (6-0.75).
In the 400m on the women's side, the Hardrockers had two top 20 finishers in
Abbie Saline and
Adeline Wilson.
In the 800m run
Madalyn McQuistan posted an admirable performance, finishing in eleventh place with a time of 2:35.66.
