RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines track and field team will have a busy weekend in Vermillion with the two-day USD Early Bird Open Friday and Saturday, hosted by the University of South Dakota.
Action begins Friday at 11 a.m., with Saturday's competition beginning at 8 a.m. More than 30 teams are expected to take part in the meet.
Last Saturday South Dakota Mines competed in the Central Nebraska Challenge in Kearney, Nebraska. The Hardrockers finished with four runner-up finishes – two individual and two relays and several other top-five finishes.
Fifth year student
Jaycie Stubbs led the Hardrockers by placing three times in the top five. She finished in third place in the javelin at 40.92 meters, fourth in the shot put at 12.51m and fifth in the discus at 41.97m.
Also for the Hardrocker women, freshman
Teagan Wright was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13 minutes, 17.73 seconds.
For the Hardrocker men, junior
Owen Hansmann led the way as he finished second in he 1,500 meter run with a personal best time of 4:01.88, which puts him eighth all time. In the 110 hurdles, senior
Taegen Wells placed second in 15.16.
In the triple jump, freshman
Sawyer Nelson finished third at 13.46 meters,
The two Hardrocker men's relay teams finished in second place. The 4X100 team of sophomore

Lane Thomas finished in 43.25 seconds and the 4X400 team of Thomas, Johnson, sophomore
Thomas Greisen and junior
Ethan Pitlick ran the race in 3:22.27.
