RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's track and field teams closed the regular season Friday looking for strong performances at the Loper Invitational in Kearney, Nebraska.
The Hardrockers came away with a pair of first-place finishes and several college personal bests.
Leading the way for the Hardrocker men was freshman
Ty Brady, who placed first in 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 53.28 seconds, a personal record and 10th best all-time for the Hardrockers.
Tierney Robinson came away with a win for the Hardrocker women, capturing the hammer throw at 45.10 meters or 147-feet, 11 inches, a personal best and ninth all-time on the women's. She also finished fifth in the long jump at 4.76m (15-7 ½).
For the SDM men, the 4x100 relay team of
Eddie Johnson,
Ethan Pitlick,
Landon Ptacek and
Dominick Giggee finished in a time of 44.13
The 'Rocker men also had a big day from
Ian Cone, who placed third in the hammer at a personal best 45.92m (150-8), fourth in the discus at 40.16m (131-9) and sixth in the invitational shot put at 14.35m (47-1).
Daniel Falk finished third in the javelin at 39.33m (129-0) and fifth in discus at 39.10 (128-3), both personal records, while
Reid Kaiser was fourth in the invitational hammer at a personal best 52.48m (172-2), fifth in the shot put at 13.18 (43-3) and seventh in the invitational discus at 42.15m (138-3).
Weston Pierce placed fourth in the men's triple jump at 12.82m (42-0 ¾) and seventh in long jump at 6.17m (20-3),
Morgan Sandal was fourth in the invitational javelin at a personal record 53.01m (173-11) and
Merek Ranstrom finished fifth in the 400 hurdles in 57.93 and sixth in the 110 hurdles in 15.21.
Cole Storlie placed fifth in pole vault at 4.02m (13-2 ¼), followed by
Elias Hallan, who was sixth in the pole vault at 3.87m (12-8 ¼) and
Isaiah Thurman placing fifth in the men's invitational hammer at 52.13m (171-0).
Also for the Hardrocker women,
Abbie Saline finished second in the 800 in 2:23.65,
Teagan Wright was second in the 3,000 steeplechase in a personal best 13:16.76.
