RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's track teams concluded a highly successful two-day, four-meet weekend on Saturday with a pair of competitions in Minnesota.
The Hardrockers had a pair of first-place finishes by freshman
Sawyer Nelson in the men's triple jump and fifth-year student
Jaycie Stubbs in the women's javelin. The teams also combined for five Top-10 school performances after having eight on Friday.
At the Bethel Track Invitational in Arden Hills, Nelson came away with the win in his specialty at 13.52 meters (44-0 ¼), which keeps him in 10th place all-time at South Dakota Mines. Also in the triple jump Saturday,
Weston Pierce was seventh at 12.77m (41-10 3/4)
In addition, at Bethel
Cole Dobberstein continued his strong weekend, setting a personal best in the 400m hurdles in 54.03 seconds, good for the fifth best mark for SDM.
Other placers were
Thomas Greisen who moved into fourth on the school's top 10 marks in teh 800m run, finishing in a time of 1:54.57.
Lane Thomas finished in fourth in the 400m run, finishing in 49.96 while
Ethan Pitlick took sixth at 50.70.
Eddie Johnson finished in fifth place in the 200 in 21.92, eighth all-time, while the 4X400 relay team of Johnson, Pitlick, Dobberstein and Greisen placed fourth in 3:21.62, setting a top 10 Hardrocker mark.
South Dakota Mines just sent throwers to the Minnesota State Open in Mankato and Stubbs led the way by winning the javelin at 40.90m (143-2). Stubbs also placed ninth in discus, hitting a mark of 42.67m (140-0).
Competing in three events,
Adisyn Schenck had a busy day but had good performances, finishing ninth in the javelin (33.44/108-8), 12th in the hammer (41.16m/135-0) and had a personal best in the shot put (11.50m/37-8 3/4), finishing 15th.
At Minnesota State,
Isaiah Thurman,
Brent Snyder and
Reid Kaiser were among the best performers, finishing sixth in the hammer (52.29m/171-6)), sixth in the javelin (49.90m/162-1), while Keiser finish 8th and 13th in the hammer and discus with throws of 49.67m (162-11) and 38.58m (126-7).
Cooper Stevens was 11
th in the shot put at 14.87 (48-9 ½), while
Ian Cone was 16
th at 14.03m (46-0 ½).

The Hardrockers are not scheduled for any other meets ahead of the RMAC Championships which are set to take place in Grand Junction, Colorado, hosted by Colorado Mesa on April 26-27.
